A YouTuber Iketsj created world’s first DIY macOS Big Sur handheld

Due to the Hackintosh process, it is not new to be able to install macOS on non-Mac computers, but it is quite unusual for YouTuber to decide to put Apple’s operating system on one. On the device. YouTube UP master Iketsj. Sanglay Jr. has manufactured a mini handheld computer that runs the Intel version of the macOS Big Sur system, which is the latest official version currently available to users.

As you might expect, the internal hardware is not terribly amazing – but it is still PC hardware in small devices. Ike used LattePanda Alpha SBC (Single Board Computer), equipped with Intel Core M3 processor, 8GB RAM, 240GB SSD storage and Arduino Leonardo microcontroller.

In order to put everything together with the monitor, keyboard and all cables, the YouTuber used a special 3D printed box. There is also a separate fan inside to reduce the temperature of all devices because it runs on Intel processors. After the hardware is ready, the next step is to install the macOS Big Sur system, just like any other Hackintosh PC.

Ike has successfully booted up the macOS system of the customized handheld computer, but unfortunately, as pointed out by the foreign media The Verge, this user did not show many details about how the macOS system runs on the handheld computer. This may be because some things are not working properly (such as the battery indicator), but at least Ike has proven that macOS Big Sur can run on this device.

Sanglay finally started the system, and sure enough, macOS Big Sur appeared. The battery indicator didn’t seem to be working properly, but in the limited shots we saw, the interface seemed to be fully functional. Of course, a handheld computer running macOS with limited functions has no practical use, and the YouTuber also admitted that he did it just for fun.

In addition, it is quite interesting to see that computer hardware has evolved to the point where it can be placed in smaller devices, such as handheld computers or even iPads (to be honest, the M1 iPad Pro can fully support running macOS).
