Samsung said it is expanding its portfolio of software-defined networking (SDN) solutions, bringing new enhancements to help various enterprises and mobile operators effectively manage their networks. So far, its SDN portfolio has provided support for data center operations.
The latest SDN solutions will be able to support businesses in various sectors such as energy, retail and education. The entire SDN series of the technology giant may also support mobile access (xHaul), which refers to the front, middle and back transmission networks.
Since the new SDN solutions are based on open source and cloud-native, they can also be easily merged with existing third-party switches and routers. Sohyong Chong, senior vice president and head of network business software development at Samsung Electronics, said:
In the 5G era, networks are becoming more flexible through SDN technology. Samsung provides a complete lineup of SDN solutions to bring more operational flexibility to 5G network management. Samsung’s SDN will help operators and enterprises quickly introduce new 5G applications, services and infrastructure, and promote faster time to market.
This SDN technology can automatically perform end-to-end network slicing, which will help meet service level agreement (SLA) requirements. It will also enable mobile operators to provide the best network for different business frameworks.
Since SDN is based on the Open Network Operating System (ONOS), it can support different types of open interfaces to promote multi-vendor interoperability. It also has the ability to collaborate with many functions in a range, including enterprise SDN and data center SDN.
