Apple shipped 12.9 million units of iPad in Q2 2021

According to IDC’s latest statistical report, in the second quarter of 2021, Apple iPad tablet PC worldwide shipments reached 12.9 million units, an increase of 3.5%, up to 31.9% of the market share topped the list. This number exceeds the sum of second-place Samsung and fourth-place Amazon. Samsung ranked second, with tablet shipments of approximately 8 million units in the second quarter, with a market share of 19.6%.

Chinese brand Lenovo ranks third on the list, with 4.7 million tablet shipments and a market share of 11.6%, a year-on-year increase of 64.5%. Since Apple no longer announces iPad sales in its earnings report, IDC can only estimate shipments based on the iPad revenue announced in Apple’s quarterly report. In addition to IDC, the estimation results of the other two institutions SA and Canalys are different, but the Apple iPad without exception ranked first in tablet shipments in the second quarter.

The popularity of the iPad is due to people’s needs for remote office and learning. According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, the iPad had its best second-quarter performance in the past decade. Apple’s quarterly report showed that iPad’s global revenue reached 7.4 billion U.S. dollars, a substantial increase from the 6.6 billion U.S. dollars in the same period last year.

IDC’s statistics also show that Huawei’s tablet shipments are about 2.1 million units, a year-on-year decrease of as much as 53.7%. In order to facilitate comparison, Huawei and Honor brand tablet shipments will be 4.9 million units in the second quarter of 2020.
