July Steam hardware/software survey results announced that AMD processor share is rebounding

The July Steam hardware and software survey results have been announced. This survey shows that AMD CPU share is rebounding, Ampere-based graphics cards performed well in July, and Windows 7 share is also recovering. In short, last month was a good month for AMD, Ampere graphics cards and Windows 7.

The survey results still show no signs of Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards. AMD has released the first Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards more than eight months ago. Since December, AMD has been catching up with Intel in terms of CPU. In May, the CPU market share finally exceeded the 30% mark, but in June there was an unexpected drop, dropping to 28.41%.

However, the July Steam hardware and software survey showed that AMD’s CPU share rebounded, with its share increasing by 0.78% to 29.19%. Although more than seven out of ten people still use Intel CPUs, AMD has begun to put pressure on its competitors.

Looking at graphics cards, only two of the top five graphics cards showed an increase in share last month, and the share of GTX 1650 graphics cards and GTX 1050 graphics cards only increased slightly by 0.01%. The GTX 1060 graphics card share dropped by 0.71%, but it maintained the number one position that it has enjoyed since it replaced the GTX 750 Ti in December 2017.

This is a great month for Nvidia, and the share of each Ampere graphics card on the list has risen. RTX 3060 notebook GPU has the largest increase in July (reaching 0.15%), RTX 3060 jumped 0.13%, and its Ti version increased 0.05%. RTX 3070 increased by 0.06% (notebook version increased by 0.04%), RTX 3080 increased by 0.04%, and even RTX 3090 also increased by 0.03%.

In terms of graphics cards, the Radeon RX 6000 series is still lacking. The first products in the series, Radeon RX 6800 and Radeon RX 6800 XT were released in November last year, but none of the investigators had RNDA 2 graphics cards. Obviously, there is a problem with the supply of the Radeon RX 6000 series.

With the launch of the Windows 11 beta and the end of the Windows 7 extended support period in January 2020, people may think that this aging operating system is dead, but the results of the Steam hardware and software survey in July showed that Windows 7 64-bit Users increased by 2.91% in June and 3.51% in July.

We also saw Oculus Quest 2 solidify its position as the top VR headset last month. It now has a 31.07% share, almost twice that of the second-ranked Oculus Rift S. As Oculus Quest temporarily stopped sales due to reports of skin irritation, Oculus Quest’s share is unlikely to increase significantly in August.
