Vivo super zoom pop-up camera patent appeared

At the beginning of this year, Vivo submitted a patent application related to Electronic Equipment Camera Module and Control Method to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and it was officially announced to the outside world on July 29, 2021.

According to the 23-page patent document, Vivo is equipped with a pop-up super zoom camera module for a concept smartphone. The feature is that it uses a four-layer cascade structure to achieve ultra-long zoom shooting.

The document pointed out that the current smartphone only supports low magnification zoom, and the new patent shows a set of novel solutions to achieve higher zoom magnification. For reference, Vivo currently has a number of smartphones equipped with zoom lenses, such as the X30 Pro equipped with two telephoto lenses and supporting 5X and 2X optical zooms respectively.

In order to help everyone better understand the design concept of this patent, LetsGoDigital specially worked with graphic designer Technizo Concept to produce a series of high-definition renderings of this concept smartphone. Unlike many smartphones with hidden front selfie cameras, Vivo has introduced a rear-facing pop-up super zoom quadruple cascade lens for this concept device.

In the case of inactive, the superzoom camera can be well hidden in the body, so as not to destroy the overall stylish appearance and futuristic sense. At the same time, Vivo can be equipped with a hidden front selfie camera under the UDC screen on the front of the fuselage.

Closer to home, the pop-up cascading lens mentioned in the patent can be continuously expanded with an additional lens as needed. Once activated, the bottom lens can always be on standby. As the distance between the lens and the camera gradually decreases, the optical axis parameters will also change. In addition, the lens assembly allows partial overlap to achieve a larger zoom range.

Unfortunately, the patent design document did not disclose in detail what kind of unique optical zoom system this conceptual device uses. As for the flash, the designer Technizo Concept had to temporarily place it on the outer ring of the last lens to maintain a symmetrical aesthetic design.

As a special invention, we have never seen a similar patent application from a manufacturer other than Vivo. In addition, even if it is to be put into actual use, we are also very worried about the durability of this type of pop-up four-cascade super zoom lens.
