PowerToys grabbed a new firmware update v0.43.0 with updated content

Microsoft’s free system utility suite called PowerToys was resurrected from the Windows XP era and introduced Windows 10 in May 2019. Can be used for advanced users to adjust and simplify Windows operations to improve efficiency. By working with Windows 10/ Windows 11 shell, users can customize various workflows at the same time.

Today, Microsoft released the v0.43.0 version of the PowerToys tool with some fixes. PowerToys includes a file renaming tool, keyboard manager and application launcher, image adjuster, keep the awake tool, color picker, microphone silencer, and others.

This update mainly focuses on stability updates and optimizations, installer updates, general bug fixes, and accessibility improvements.

Here is the update log:

  • In order to be compatible with Windows 11, the tooltip text of the system tray icon is changed to a single line.
  • Fixed the escape behavior of the color picker so that it only closes the part of the pop-up window when it is activated.
  • The URI PowerToys Run plug-in has been changed to enable HTTPS instead of HTTP by default.
  • Added confirmation dialog when executing system commands from PowerToys Run.

  • Fixed FileInUse error during installation/update.
  • Corrected the correct display of the toggle switch in the PowerToys operating settings.
  • Fixed the problem that the title text is not updated when the theme color is changed.

Awake wake tool

  • Fixed an error when right-clicking the menu of the Awake application icon.
  • Fixed the high CPU usage rate when waking up at the regular time.
  • Fixed the interference of the Awake icon on the notification bar.
  • Added telemetry function to collect Awake’s settings and logs.

Color picker

  • Removed the private Unicode character in the element’s Name attribute.
  • There is no class name in the Name attribute.
  • Added the attribute of the non-empty bounding rectangle.
  • Corrected the number of color shades for screen readers.
  • Correct the elements that can be followed so that they have a non-empty name attribute.
  • Distinguish the Name attribute and LocalizedControlType from the elements and their parent elements.
  • ControlType and LocalizedControlType are no longer set to Custom at the same time.
  • Fixed the screen reader incorrectly naming the color picker at startup.
  • Fixed an issue where screen readers did not display colors when navigating.

FANCYZONES

  • Fixed the bug that caused the multi-monitor span error.
  • The minimum area size limit has been increased in the settings.
  • Fixed the problem that the reopened window does not appear in the previously allocated area.
  • Corrected the setting for exclusion of applications so that it is saved when the text changes instead of when leaving the focus.
  • Fixed loading crash of corrupted/outdated plugins.
  • Fixed the problem that FancyZones does not work after the computer goes to sleep.
  • Add a screen reader confirmation to the canvas editor when the new area is added.

Keyboard manager

  • Corrected the use error of the screen reader to increase the intuitiveness.

POWERTOYS RUN

  • Fixed a crash error caused by the missing image file app.dark.png.
  • Fixed the error of URI plug-in processing number input.
  • Improved the startup performance when PowerToys run is called for the first time.
