AMD processor market share 16.9%, the highest level since 2006

According to the latest report, recent data from Mercury Research, a market research organization, shows that AMD processors accounted for 16.9% of the PC market in the second quarter of 2021 (excluding EPYC). This data is the highest level since 2006, with a year-on-year increase of 7.3% and a month-on-month increase of 0.8%.

In the entire x86 processor market (including consumer and server CPUs), AMD’s market share reached 15.8%, an increase of 0.7% month-on-month and 4.1% year-on-year. Specifically, AMD’s share of the server processor market in the second quarter was 11.6%.

AMD had previously stated that it was trying to reduce shipments of civilian processors and focused on producing higher-end processors because the latter were more profitable. Although this kind of operation will reduce the market share, it will increase the company’s profits.

AMD’s current civilian processors include the Ryzen series and the thread tearer series, and the server CPUs are mainly EPYC Xiaolong series products, which are now the third generation with up to 64 cores.
