Apple introduces major features and design improvements to the official weather app for iOS 15

After acquiring Meteor’s weather app Dark Sky in 2020, Apple finally introduced major design improvements in the iOS 15 official weather app. First of all, from the appearance point of view, the new version of the weather application in iOS 15 has been able to provide users with the information they need more clearly than before. With reference to the card interface of the settings application, the UI design divides various information into several main parts.

In the main view, there is still an hourly weather overview, and users can switch to view the weather forecast for the next 10 days. The updated 10-day weather forecast can also display more details, and there is a bar graph that allows users to easily know the temperature changes in the future.

Scroll down and you will see the new weather module, where a lot of graphic data has been added, including air quality, temperature, UV index, sunset and sunrise, wind, precipitation, humidity, visibility, and air pressure. It is worth mentioning that Apple has also added a full-screen weather map to iOS 15, which provides overview data on expected precipitation, air quality and temperature.

The user can change the view to precipitation or air quality map by clicking on the default temperature map and stack. Or click the small folding map icon in the lower-left corner of the Weather App to choose to access the weather map from anywhere.

The precipitation map also ushered in animation effects, which can show the path of the incoming storm and the intensity of rain and snow. The air quality and temperature map can also facilitate users to view the local and surrounding area conditions, as well as zoom as needed.

However, the current air quality information function will only be available in markets such as Canada, China, Germany, France, India, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, South Korea, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

When it may rain, snow or hail in the next hour, users can also set up to pay attention to relevant notifications. For example, in the United States, the United Kingdom and Ireland, you can turn on the precipitation reminder for the next hour.

Finally, in order to cater to the updated design in the iOS 15 Weather App, Apple also provides thousands of new animated backgrounds to better display more information about the position of the sun, rain, clouds, storms, and other weather phenomena.

Whether day or night or weather patterns change, the background animation changes in real-time. However, this feature is limited to devices equipped with A12 Bionic and above chips, and the old iPhone will not be able to improve these details.
