GTA 5 brought over 7 million users to the Epic Games Store

The Epic Games Store promotions are certainly not new: every week, on Thursday, one or more titles are made available to subscribers who have 7 days to download them, before the free game is replaced by a new offer.

Some titles are obviously more popular than others, so the Fortnite company, based on the investment, can expect a return in different new accounts. The last in May 2020 to be put to the players was GTA 5, but not a new title from still incredibly successful, capable of bringing about Epic Games Store over 7 million new users.

This is what we learned through some of the documents that were filed during the trial that sees Epic against Apple and which also gave other interesting references on titles, perhaps not as popular, but still of recall such as Civilization 6, which led to 2.5 million subscribers, and Subnautica, 1 million.

The process of purchasing licenses from developers and publishers for the sole purpose of giving them to users, pushing the accelerator pedal in order to have more recordings, has been defined internally by Epic as Project Moonshot and has as its ultimate goal to bring, also through the purchase of exclusives, the revenues of the virtual store up to one billion dollars. Just to have a reference, always within the cards shown during the process, the company would have paid 143 million dollars to ensure the exclusive PC at the launch of Borderlands 3.

Just a few days ago, Epic announced that it had reached 58 million active users, a value not too dissimilar to that of last December, or 56 million. It must also be said that, partly due to the few high-profile releases and partly due to the absence of major promotions, this slowdown is all in all physiological: we will see in the coming months how the company will choose to put its hand to the wallet to try to push the inscriptions further.
