YouTube picture-in-picture feature on iOS currently limited to Premium users

This Tuesday, the iOS YouTube app launched an experimental Picture-in-Picture feature, which allows you to watch videos while using other apps. Currently, the picture-in-picture function is limited to Premium users, and the user needs to manually enable it to take effect. After enabling it, users are allowed to minimize the YouTube playback window into a mini player and place it on top of other applications.

To use Picture-in-Picture, users must first visit YouTube.com/new after logging in to their Google account and navigate to the Picture-in-Picture on the iOS experiment. Select Try to activate the option of the account. Next, when opening the YouTube app on the iPhone and playing the video, the user can swipe up or press the home button to close the app and display a mini player. The video will continue to play in the small picture-in-picture pane.

YouTube said that the video will be paused when the screen is locked, but users can use controls to resume when the screen is locked.
