Walmart raises wages for 560,000 US store employees by at least $12 per hour

Wal-Mart, the largest retailer in the United States, said on Thursday that as the retail industry faces a tight labor market as it enters the holiday shopping season, the company will increase the hourly wages of more than 565,000 store employees in the United States by at least $1.

Wal-Mart’s US CEO John Furner said in a memo to employees that this is the company’s third investment in salary in the past year, and Wal-Mart’s average hourly wage in the US is now $16.40. Forner said that employees who work in the front end of Wal-Mart stores, the food and consumer products department, and the general merchandise department will receive higher wages. The salary increase will take effect on September 25.

With the continuation of the new crown epidemic, companies are facing fierce competition for personnel, and one after another has improved employee benefits. Earlier this week, Wal-Mart announced plans to hire 20,000 workers for its supply chain to prepare for the holiday shopping season and prepare for more people to shop online. In July of this year, Wal-Mart also stated that it will pay 100% of tuition and textbook fees for college employees.
