Edge 93 ushered in experimental features and visual refresh to cater to Windows 11

Although Microsoft has set an official release date of October 5 for Windows 11, related functions are still being improved. For example, in Microsoft Edge 93, we saw some experimental features, such as menus and new modern scroll bars designed to cater to Windows 11. In addition, Edge 93 has enabled Chrome-like tab grouping to help users find, switch, and manage tabs efficiently.

Edge 93 also supports continuing to view PDF documents from where it was interrupted last time and can display a new toolbar when the mouse hovers over supported videos to easily watch the video in picture-in-picture mode. The vertically placed tab has also become a new option in edge://settings/appearance. Once enabled, it will hide the title bar of the browser.

As for the two new experimental features introduced by Edge 93, the first is an update to cater to the global visual style of Windows 11, and the second is the Overlay scroll bar. The former brings the unique Mica design element of Windows 11, which can automatically apply the desktop background color to the active window, but only applies to the title bar part of the Edge browser.

It also enables the Acrylic (translucent) effect of Fluent Design for the Edge menu and context menu. After enabling this mark in the system, it will adjust the size of the menu font. In addition to the font changes (to make it look bigger), we will also see some centrally placed buttons, including minimizing, maximize, and close the window.

Secondly, Edge 93 will support the Overlay scroll bar on Windows 10/11. After enabling this flag, the default scroll bar of the browser will become more streamlined and support dark mode. If you are already experiencing the preview test version of Windows 11, you should also find that this change is designed to match the appearance of other system applications (such as settings and explorer). Interested friends can update to Edge 93 and above, and then manually enable this visual update flag adapted to Windows 11.

As for the new version of the scroll bar, please also open the Properties tab of Edge and add the following target fields:

To try out the new scroll bar in Edge 93, open Edge’s properties tab and add the following code to the target field:

However, in the next few months, Microsoft is also expected to bring more Edge visual refreshes to Windows 11 users.
