Enter website names faster in Safari on iPhone and iPad

Entering names of websites on iPhone and iPad can be faster: you can quickly switch between domain extensions such as .com, .nl, .be and .org. Browsing via Safari on the iPhone and iPad is a bit faster with this tip about entering website names. By making smart use of the keyboard, you can surf websites faster.

Faster entering website names in Safari via keyboard shortcut

Opening your favorite websites in Safari is fastest if you set them as favorites. You don’t have to enter a website address at all, but only tap the website in the list of favorites. However, sometimes you have to enter an address manually and with this tip, it goes a lot faster. This can be done in two ways.

  • If the website name ends in .nl, .be, .org or another commonly used domain extension, type in the name of the website and keeps your finger pressed on the ‘.’ (point). Domain extensions will then appear. If you have set Dutch as the language, then .nl is also included. A French user sees .fr in the list. Drag your finger to the left to choose the correct extension, then release.
  • You can also make clever use of the suggestions that Safari itself provides. As soon as you enter the name of the website, you will receive all kinds of suggestions from Siri or based on your previously visited websites. Make sure Safari Suggestions are turned on under Settings > Safari > Safari Suggestions.

Good to know: if you’ve already (out of habit) typed in a period, you don’t have to remove it before using a shortcut. Your iPhone recognizes an already entered point and will ensure that there are no two points. Ideal for the transition phase when you still have to get used to the function.
