Microsoft Office 2021 will be launched on October 5th

Microsoft today launched the next permanent version of Microsoft Office for business customers, and said it will launch the consumer-oriented version of Office 2021 on October 5.

The Microsoft Office long-term service channel (LTSC) for Windows and Mac will be launched today for commercial and government users, providing a locked-time version of Office that does not require subscription.

Office LTSC is designed for companies in regulated industries whose processes and applications cannot be changed on a monthly basis, or for manufacturing plants that rely on Office and want to lock in time for release.

LTSC will not be equipped with the artificial intelligence and cloud computing functions in Microsoft 365, and will not get new functions with the update after purchase. Microsoft will support Office LTSC for five years, and the company also promised to launch another permanent version of Office in the future.

The consumer-oriented Office 2021 permanent version will be very similar, as it will provide a time-locked version with no feature updates. Microsoft has listed the following new features of Office LTSC, which are also applicable to Office 2021.

Line focus-similar to reading mode, to eliminate interference, browse Word documents line by line.

XLOOKUP function-helps to find things in the table or range by row in the Excel worksheet.

Dynamic Array Support–The new function of using dynamic array in Excel.

Dark mode-all Office applications will include dark mode support.

Of course, Microsoft still recommends Microsoft 365 to businesses and consumers. The company has more than 300 million Office 365 paid user entities for business. Microsoft also recently announced the first price increase for Microsoft 365 and Office 365, which will take effect in March 2022.

Microsoft has not elaborated on the pricing of Office 2021, but the company said that it will be generally available on October 5, the same day Windows 11 was launched. More details on the features and pricing of Office 2021 will be announced soon.
