Windows 11 Dev Preview Build 22458.1000 released

Microsoft today released the Build 22458.1000 (rs_prerelease) update to Windows 11 Dev channel users. This update means that the version released to the Dev channel will be higher than the official version of Windows 11 released to customers on the October 5 Edition version.

Microsoft said that the watermark seen by users of the Dev preview version in the lower right corner of the desktop is normal, and this update contains a number of improvements and bug fixes.

Improvements & Fixes:

  • Added a login option under the power menu of the start menu (the previous version has appeared, but Microsoft forgot to record it).

Start Menu:

  • Fixed the fundamental problem that affected the reliability of the startup.

Search:

  • Now you can add folders with # in the folder name to the index.

Set-Up:

  • Solved the problem that sometimes caused the settings to crash when trying to open the display page;
  • Click Details about refresh rate in Advanced display settings, and the support page will now open;
  • Fixed an issue where warning text was not displayed on the Location page in Settings, which explained why the Location Services setting was grayed out;
  • Keep the changes made to the preferences under Manage Application Execution Aliases in Settings;
  • Fixed several errors in dll output.

Application Window:

  • Mitigated the problem that may cause some games to crash unexpectedly when using ALT+Enter (that is, to switch between full screen and window) with automatic HDR enabled.

Other:

  • Solved the problem that caused the text in the encrypted file system window to be truncated in some cases;
  • Fixed a rare situation that may cause uninstalled pre-installed applications to reappear unexpectedly after restarting;
  • The Appx command can now be used with PowerShell 7.0+ printui.dll.

Known issues:-

Conventional:

  • A problem is being solved that has caused some Surface Pro X to have uncorrectable errors;
  • We are fixing an issue that caused some devices to experience DRIVER_PNP_WATCHDOG errors when trying to update to the latest version.

Start Menu:

  • In some cases, you may not be able to enter text when using Search from Start or the taskbar. If you encounter this problem, please press WIN+R on the keyboard to start the Run dialog box, and then close it;
  • When you right-click the start button (WIN+X), the system is lost.

Mission Board:

  • Important note: The icons on the taskbar will move to one side when they are center-aligned by default, causing them to be cut off by the Show hidden icons button when too many applications are opened;
  • When switching input methods, the taskbar sometimes flickers.

Search:

  • After clicking the search icon on the taskbar, the search panel may not open. If this happens, please restart the “Windows Explorer” process, and then open the search panel again;
  • The search panel may appear black, and nothing is displayed below the search box.

File Manager:

  • If you right-click a file in OneDrive in the File Explorer and hover the mouse over an item that opens the submenu (such as Open With), the context menu will close unexpectedly.

Small Parts:

  • The widget board may appear empty. To solve this problem, the user can log out and then log in again;
  • The widget may be displayed in the wrong size on the external monitor. If this happens, the user can first start the widget on the actual PC display by touching or WIN+W shortcut, and then start it on the auxiliary display.

Sandbox:

  • An issue is being investigated. After upgrading to this version, some insiders may not be able to start Windows Sandbox.

Microsoft App Store:

  • Continue to work hard to improve search relevance in the store.
  • Windows Subsystem (WSL) and Hyper-V for Linux:
  • We are investigating reports that WSL2 and Hyper-V do not work on ARM64 PCs (such as Surface Pro X).

This update also brings a new Win11 reminder App, which has been redesigned and has more than 100 reminders.
