Here’s how Gboard’s design changes with Android 12 and Material You

The work of the Google developers continues unabated to implement the Material You style in all the services and applications offered by the Mountain View giant and with the latest beta version of Gboard further steps have been taken.

Recall that Material You is the name chosen by Google for the design language introduced with Android 12, focused on a rounded appearance and also in Gboard it is possible to notice this particular feature.

How does the Gboard keyboard change with the Material You style

Below are two pairs of screenshots with the current version of Gboard (left) and the one redesigned with the Material You language (right), which is easily recognizable due to the presence of more rounded elements:

Upon pressing the rectangular keys have been replaced by circular pop-ups and there are new pill-shaped options when selecting the emoji and punctuation keys.

The Google team is also redesigning the Gboard settings menu, with a more consistent look to that already seen in other applications of the Mountain View giant. Below is the keyboard settings menu in the current version (left) and in the Material You version (right). The Themes page has also undergone a restyling, with rounded bubbles and new looks for its cards:

These new changes, previously hidden from users, have been activated by the Mountain View giant with the 11.0.10.392642368 version of Gboard Beta, which can be downloaded from APK Mirror (find the dedicated page here). By the time the stable version of Android 12 is finally released by Google, these changes should start rolling out for all users of the OS.
