Android 13: Browsing the web will be even safer

The final version of Android 12 has not yet been released by Google but the community that revolves around the ecosystem created by the Mountain View giant is already projected towards the next release, which could have a nickname that knows so much about Italy.

As we learn from XDA Developers, with Android 13 Tiramisù the Google developer team could implement an important improvement related to web browsing. To date, in fact, the OS of the Mountain View giant supports DNS only with the DoT standard (DNS-over-TLS) natively (it is called Private DNS) but with Android 13 support for the DoH standard should also arrive (DNS -over-HTTPS), at least that’s what a recent change in the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) code seems to suggest.

With Android 13 there will also be a novelty for the browser

In particular, the description Enable the default DoH function in T was found in which Android 13 is called up (the Mountain View giant, in fact, identifies this version of the OS with T or Tiramisu), which in the section dedicated to Private DNS it should also include native support for the DoH standard.

The DoT and DoH standards essentially do the same thing, as the former uses TLS technology (also known as SSL) to encrypt DNS traffic (it’s the same protocol used by HTTPS websites to encrypt and authenticate communications) while the latter use HTTP or HTTP/2 protocols to send queries and responses. Additionally, these two standards use different ports, which makes the introduction of DoH support a small privacy improvement.

Google will most likely add DoH support in the Private DNS option in Android’s network and internet settings although, at the moment, there are no confirmations to that effect or further details on this feature.
