Alexa will be able to recognize sounds, new features coming soon

Although the hardware played a major role in the Amazon presentation a few minutes ago, the company has unveiled an interesting new improvement that will affect the Alexa voice assistant. Amazon says that very soon we will be able to program Alexa to recognize custom sounds so that interaction can become even more advanced.

For example, we could receive alerts or activate smart home actions when our smart speaker hears something. The company has already experimented a lot in the past, claiming that it taught Alexa to detect snoring and transformed the ability to detect glass breakage and smoke alarm sirens into its Alexa Guard feature. But this interaction could improve a lot in the future, even if the company hasn’t gone too far in the details.

We also know that some Echo devices will be able to emit an ultrasonic wave thanks to which they will be able to understand if someone is in the house and act accordingly. An example? They will be able to turn off our Fire TV in case we leave the house forgetting the device on, or other similar interactions. Some Ring cameras will also be able to recognize package deliveries and can provide customized alerts. For the moment, the details end here.

Amazon unveiled its new Echo Show, the heart of which is the new AZ2 Neural Edge chip customized to perform some of the processing, however, it is unclear whether the new chip will be prerogative for this new feature.
