Users say the design of Apple’s Safari 15 new tab is counterintuitive

According to the latest report, Apple has adopted a new label design on the Mac’s Safari 15 browser, which has caused a lot of controversies, and many users complained that it was counterintuitive. John Gruber of Daring Fireball said that in previous versions of Safari, there has never been any ambiguity about which tab is active because an active tab will be displayed in a lighter shade to match the browser toolbar.

However, in Safari 15, the label has a new button-like design, with a rounder and clearer appearance. Apple has also reversed the shadow of the label, and now the shadow of the active label is darker, and the shadow of the inactive label is lighter. This change annoys users, as can be seen from the nearly 1,000 support posts on Reddit.

Gruber wrote: This design is counter-intuitive. No matter how you set it up, the contrast between the title and background of the active label is smaller than that of the background label. What’s the point? The active label should be the one that pops up.

A Reddit user said frustratedly: I can’t tell you how many times I have closed the tabs I need for this reason. For users who do not like the new design, unfortunately, Apple has not made any changes to the shadow of the label in the Safari 15.1 beta or the latest version of the experimental Safari technology preview.
