NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 12GB and RTX 3050 Ti could arrive in January

While AMD seems to have closed, at least for the moment, the Radeon RX 6000 desktop range with the latest entry-level model Radeon RX 6600, the rumors about the refresh of NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 30 do not subside and, after the rumors. on a possible RTX 3090 Ti PCI-E 5.0, suggest the debut of another top-of-the-range graphics card with Ampere GPU. As reported by colleagues from videocardz, NVIDIA has already informed partners about the new version of the GeForce RTX 3080 with 12GB of GDDR6X VRAM, a move that in most cases indicates that the manufacturer is quite close to launch.

Assuming that we are talking about information yet to be confirmed, the alleged GeForce RTX 3080 12GB could arrive together with the other models expected for the refresh of the RTX 30 series (RTX 3090 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti 16GB), ie at the beginning of 2022. NVIDIA currently has no comment on the story, but given the latest marketing moves – also followed by AMD – we cannot exclude that the cards will arrive separately, thus creating some doubts about the possible launch dates.

The “new” GeForce RTX 3080 12GB will use the Ampere GA102-220 GPU, keeping unchanged the technical characteristics of the GeForce RTX 3080 10GB announced last year, with the exception of the amount of memory. Staying in the Ampere GPU field, a recent tweet from the leaker Kopite7kimi brings attention to the long-awaited and discussed GeForce RTX 3050 Ti, presented in the notebook segment in May, but never reached the desktop market.

According to what has been leaked, a GeForce RTX 3050 Ti with GA106 GPU and a GA107-based RTX 3050 could also arrive in January; the first will be equipped with 3.072 Cuda Core and 6/12GB GDDR6 (192 bit), while for the second at the moment we do not have precise details on the GPU (we assume 2.048/2.560 Cuda Core) which will probably be combined with 4GB of VRAM (128 bit).

At present, therefore, the graphics cards we can expect from NVIDIA for the GeForce RTX 30 refresh should be the following:

  • GeForce RTX 3090 Ti
  • GeForce RTX 3080 12GB
  • GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 16GB
  • GeForce RTX 3050/3050 Ti

To these, we could then add a GeForce RTX 2060 12GB, a product that had already been talked about a few days ago and that, at least if the GeForce RTX 3050s are confirmed, it would make little sense other than to dispose of further batches of Turing TU106 GPUs.
