Windows 11 recently received a new update (Build 22000.282) in the preview version, which fixes a series of bugs, including a bug that has been affecting the performance of AMD’s compatible processors. It turns out that there is a bug that may reduce the performance of all machines, at least when you use File Explorer frequently.
In addition to cumulative updates, Microsoft also released Windows 11 Build 22478, which has redesigned emojis and other improvements. Build 22478 comes from the active branch codenamed Nickel, so this means that it is only suitable for users of the development channel. It contains fixes for issues affecting the command bar of the file browser.
As you may know, Microsoft replaced the traditional file explorer ribbon with a command bar (a group of quick action buttons). According to the content you select in the Explorer, you will see different operation items in the command bar. The command bar allows you to copy, cut, rename, share and delete selected files or folders, and you can also use it to change the view of the project. This new command bar has all the functions we need for normal tasks, but it comes with an unexpected error that may cause memory leaks.
According to reports, when users navigate between different folders, the command bar will perform unnecessary calculations, resulting in unexpected performance degradation. This bug can also cause performance problems when using the drag function of the operating system to select files.

When the user selects a file with the arrow keys, it will bring high memory usage. Explorer is obviously also plagued by slow right-click context menu errors, all of which are undoubtedly quite annoying. Windows 11 Build 22478 finally fixed the file explorer command bar error, which Microsoft described as the root cause of performance problems for users. In addition, when opening multiple instances, the Show hidden items option will no longer appear accidentally.
It is worth noting that Microsoft is still testing the repair of the Explorer command bar in the development channel, and will move to the stable channel as early as next month. If resource manager problems or other performance problems are still bothering you, then it is best to downgrade to Windows 10. This is because Microsoft is still working on repairs, and switching to the development channel will have unexpected side effects. These fixes will be delivered to more users as part of the Patch Tuesday update later this year.
