Google launches Pixel Pass, an integrated subscription system that combines mobile phones and services

While launching the new Google Pixel 6 smartphone, the company also introduced a new way of buying. This integrated subscription service allows consumers to buy Pixel phones at a low monthly fee instead of paying all the fees upfront. This service is $45 per month for the Pixel 6 and $55 per month for the Pixel 6 Pro, but it does not just provide the use of the phone itself. Subscription services also include Google’s services, such as storage, music, YouTube Premium, and free apps and games.

Subscribers will be able to use the ad-free YouTube, also known as YouTube Premium, which is usually $11.99 per month. This includes YouTube Music Premium, which is the company’s response to Spotify and Apple Music, as well as an alternative to Google Play Music, which has ceased operations.

Pixel Pass users will also get 200GB of Google One cloud storage space, Google Store discounts and Google Play Pass, saving $4.99 per month or $29.99 per year subscription. It provides free applications and game options, no in-app purchases or Advertising, similar to Apple’s Apple Arcade.

The package also includes equipment insurance to provide protection for worry-free repairs and “little accidents in life”, which is a bit similar to AppleCare-like services provided by Google for devices. Pixel devices shipped with the Pixel Pass are all unlocked, and consumers can also purchase this service through the Google Store or the Google Fi calling plan operated by themselves. If you purchase the Pixel Pass as a subscription, the device owner will save $294 in two years. But if they buy through Google Fi, they can save an extra $4 from the monthly Fi plan, which is equivalent to saving $414 in two years.

This communication package is designed for people who frequently update their equipment. They like to always carry the latest equipment, but also want to get advanced services. This is clearly intended to be a Google copy of Appleā€™s iPhone renewal program every year. The difference is that Apple provides its own set of subscription services separately through its newer Apple One subscription plan, but Pixel Pass bundles them together.

The new Pixel Pass with Pixel 6 is available for pre-order in the United States today, starting at $45 per month, and can be purchased in the Google Store or through Google Fi.
