Android Police reported that Google’s commitment to updating the Pixel 6 series of smartphones is not as strong as we expected. Although fulfilling the promise of a “five-year update”, only the first three years were major Android version updates (to Android 15 in October 2024), and the next two years were pure security patches.
Although Google’s official measures are very pleasant, looking back at history, it’s so-called at least can only extend this commitment by a few months at most. In other words, Google is just quite opportunistic to extend the security patch for the Pixel 6/6 Pro models for two years. But from the current known actions, the company is not trying to extend the update support period of Pixel devices as we expected.
