Earlier this year, Blizzard cancelled live events due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Even so, the studio promised to hold another online virtual event (Blizzconline) in early 2022. However, after Activision Blizzard was caught in a series of litigation turmoil, the company is now forced to delay indefinitely the holding of the offline carnival (BlizzCon).
Blizzard Entertainment wrote in an article on Tuesday:
We decided to take a step back and suspend the BlizzConline event planned to be launched early next year. For all of us, this is a very difficult decision, but it may also be the most correct. Regardless of the form of BlizzCon, the event requires you, me and everyone in the company to actively promote the realization, and we are still eager to share content creation with our beloved community.
But at present, we believe that the company lacks the energy required to host such shows, so we decided to transfer energy to support our team to promote the game experience and related development.

At the same time, Blizzard Entertainment also wants to take the time to reimagine what the future BlizzCon event will look like.
- The first Blizzard Carnival can be traced back to 16 years ago, but since then, we have undergone many changes.
- Most importantly, the community of players can come together in many ways and feel that they are part of the grand narrative.
- No matter what the future event will become, we need to make sure it can be as safe, popular, and inclusive as possible.
- We are committed to continuous communication with players and believe that Carnival can still play an important role in the future.
- When we re-examine it in the future, we will also be excited about how to treat Blizzard Carnival.
