Firefox 94 modified multi-tab window closing behavior, no prompt is issued by default

With the rise of multi-tab browsers, modern users have become accustomed to pop-up reminders when opening multiple tabs to avoid losing the saved work progress. However, starting from Firefox 94, Mozilla has modified the default behavior of the browser, which means that users who need it need to manually enable this setting in the configuration screen.

Mozilla said: Starting from version 94 of Firefox, when you exit the browser (or close the window) using a menu, button, or three-key command, Firefox will no longer send a reminder by default. The reason is that the prompt information in these specific situations has caused unnecessary and possibly unwelcome friction in the actual user experience.

In addition, the two-key exit shortcut for macOS and Linux users has a higher risk of accidental triggering because the ⌘+Q key combination and ⌘+Tab to switch applications are too close. Firefox users who need it can go to Settings -> Options in the menu bar, and then enable Acknowledge when closing multiple tabs under the General tab.

After checking this option, Firefox 94 will restore the reminder mode of Firefox 93 by default when multiple tabs are closed. Finally, although updating to Firefox 94 will lose tabs when installing a new version of the browser, it can actually restore the previous tabs to the browser.

And when starting the new version of the browser for the first time, the user should also see the prompt “whether to open the previous tab”.
