Analysis company expects Samsung Display to produce 18 million foldable OLED panels next year

On Sunday, analyst firm UBI Research predicted that in 2022, Samsung Display, a panel manufacturer under Samsung Electronics, will produce 18 million foldable OLED panels. Last Thursday, UBI Research predicted in a report that in 2021, foldable OLED panel shipments will reach 8.9 million. In 2025, the shipment of foldable OLED panels is expected to reach 49 million, with an average annual growth rate of 53%.

In contrast, market research company Omdia predicts that shipments of foldable OLED panels will increase from 10 million in 2021 to 66.61 million in 2025, with an average annual growth rate of 61%. Samsung Display is one of the world’s largest suppliers of OLED panels and has a dominant position in the small and medium OLED panel market. Apple’s iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone X all use the company’s OLED panels.

For many years, the company has been a leader in the development of foldable displays. Therefore, the company will supply original equipment manufacturers who wish to develop their own foldable phones. Earlier, some media reported that Samsung Display will supply foldable OLED panels for Google, OPPO and Xiaomi. The sizes of these panels range from 7.6 inches to 8.03 inches.

Although Chinese smartphone manufacturers purchase foldable OLED panels from Samsung Display, they purchase fewer OLED panels than they purchase from Samsung Electronics. Previously, market research company Omdia predicted that this year, the sales of foldable OLED panels will reach 2.1 billion US dollars, an increase of 203% over 2020, but most of the sales will come from Samsung Display.
