Google all-round on Material You, Wear OS and more

The last few months have been quite hectic for Google: the launch of Android 12, the presentation of Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro, the (unexpected) announcement of Android 12L and the new commissions for the Play Store. The guys from XDA sat virtually with Sameer Samat, vice president of Google Play Store, to talk about some important issues of the entire Android ecosystem, starting from Material You up to Android 12L.

Google talks about Material You, Wear OS and more

Starting from Material You, one of the most important and tangible changes on Android 12, Samat revealed that Google’s approach was twofold: on the one hand, they wanted to offer users a system capable of representing their personal tastes in every aspect. of the operating system, from wallpaper to icons, while from the point of view of the developers they have thought of a simple and not very cumbersome system for managing themes.

Moving on to the wearable branch and more specifically to Wear OS 3 and the partnership between Google and Samsung announced during the last Google I/O, Sameer confirmed that Samsung has been very excited to embrace Wear OS 3 in its latest smartwatches – Samsung Galaxy Watch4 and Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic -, and Google’s commitment to building new tools and applications for the platform is a very motivating aspect for the entire industry.

As for Chromebooks, however, Google’s intent is to leave free space for users to install apps through the Play Store or use Progressive Web Applications. Finally, coming to Android 12L, the version of Android with an eye for foldable devices and more, Samat confirmed that Google is 100% committed to OEMs and developers to set up a platform full of applications optimized for the new form factors that will be increasingly popular.
