Google Desktop Search Policy adjusted to rank websites with reference to page experience in February next year

Since August, Google has been using the metric “Page Experience” to determine how a website is displayed in mobile search. Now, the technology giant has announced that starting from February 2022, the desktop version of Google search will also refer to the “page experience” indicator to adjust the ranking of related websites.

Page speed and other indicators will be prioritized to quantify the interactive experience between visitors and the website. The former covers loading time, responsiveness, and visual stability-such as clicking the wrong button due to accidental movement of the site during loading. These three important references (Core Web Vitals) can describe the quality of the user’s overall web browsing experience.

Since August, Google has been emphasizing these factors in its mobile search rankings. After that, the company will continue to consider “HTTPs security” and “non-intrusive interstitial ads.” As for “mobile-friendliness”, this is not the most important point. When the site has a separate desktop/mobile URL, supplemented by the appropriate configuration, it depends on which one the user chooses.

Finally, Google plans to start providing desktop tools in February 2022, and will widely enable “page experience” references for search rankings at the end of March. Interested developers/webmasters can use Google Search Console for more details.
