Microsoft is making up for the lack of dark mode in the Windows 10 search component

On the Windows 10 operating system, Microsoft allows users to switch between dark and light themes, and almost all native applications, settings, taskbar, notification center, file explorer, etc. provide adaptation. The embarrassing thing is that even though some third-party applications have been adapted to the global theme settings of Windows 10, Windows Search, one of the most commonly used system components of Windows 10, still has a dazzling white background.

Compared with native applications such as Microsoft Store, Windows Security, Your Phone, Clock, and Calculator, Windows Search has severely damaged the dark theme experience in the Windows 10 operating system. The good news is that in order to repair the consistency of the experience in this regard, Microsoft seems to have finally made an update and adjustment on the server-side to correctly enable the dark mode support for the Windows 10 search component.

Mayank Parmar of Windows Latest found that this change is being pushed to users of Windows 10 2004/20H2/21H1 and higher system versions. The entire Windows search window, the search panel/right-click context menu, and even Web search provided by Bing, now fully support black backgrounds. Regardless of the filters (documents/settings/pictures), all search results are also presented with a dark background to match the rest of the UI, such as the Settings and start menus.

However, compared with the latest Windows 11 operating system, the black background of the Windows 10 search component is still somewhat different, especially that it does not have the rounded corner elements unique to Windows 11 (WinUI component). Finally, if you want to enable the global dark mode on the Windows 10 operating system, please go to “Settings -> Personalization -> Color”, and then select a dark color.
