iOS 15.2 adds the option of scanning nearby AirTags and supports Find My items

In the iOS 15.2 beta released today, Apple has added enhanced features to the Find My app. There is a new feature designed to allow users to scan items that may be tracking their AirTags or supporting Find My. After installing the beta version, open the Find My application and enter the Items tab. There is an option of “Can track my items.

By clicking this option, users can search for nearby items that may be used to track their location. After activation, the unknown item feature will scan anything nearby and let the user know if there is a device belonging to another person nearby. If an item is detected, Apple will provide instructions on how to disable the device so that it can no longer be used for tracking purposes.

Apple also has an option to Help Return Lost Items, which is the same as the previous Identify Lost Items option. The Help return lost items function initiates a scan, locates nearby devices, and provides instructions on how to contact the owner of the device, and instructs to personalize the device according to the problem.

AirTags and items with the Find My function are designed to allow users to track their lost devices, but there are concerns that AirTags may be placed on people for tracking purposes. In order to prevent the use of AirTags and other devices for tracking, Apple has implemented some security measures.

AirTags is designed to start playing sounds within 8 to 24 hours after being separated from the owner. If AirTag travels with them, iPhone users will receive an alert. Apple is developing an Android application that allows Android users to detect an unknown AirTag or an item that supports the Find My network to prevent AirTags from being used to track Android users.
