WhatsApp is developing a new UWP program for Windows 10/11

WhatsApp is developing new UWP applications for Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems, and relevant screenshots have been released. WhatsApp is one of the few apps that are frequently updated on Windows 10 Mobile, even if Microsoft announces the end of support for the system.

Unfortunately, the old WhatsApp was developed based on Silverlight, which means it is not a UWP program and it cannot run on all different Windows 10 platforms. Three years later, WhatsApp is actually developing a UWP application for the desktop operating system.

Currently, the desktop application of WhatsApp in the Microsoft Store is mainly based on the web (web.whatsapp.com) version of WhatsApp, which uses the Electron framework. The current application connects to WhatsApp to provide users with the opportunity to access the WhatsApp web interface. Users need to scan a QR code to verify the connection.

UWP-based WhatsApp will technically mean that Windows desktop users will be provided to access WhatsApp chat history without connecting to the web version. In addition, this is a mature UWP client, written from the ground up, it is not based on network components. In other words, this new WhatsApp desktop client will not be a web-packed version.
