Samsung’s double-folding smartphone patent approved

After the commercial use of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, Samsung is aiming at the foldable market to continue its efforts. In August this year, Samsung Display demonstrated a Galaxy Z Flex that can be folded into three parts. At the same time, Samsung is working hard to develop new technologies and possibilities to improve the user experience of this folding phone to a higher level.

Citing LetsGoDigital reports, Samsung has been approved for another folding mobile phone patent. The patent is titled Electronic Devices and Methods of Sharing Battery in Electronic Devices, and the application was filed on March 26, 2021. This 72-page document was subsequently included by the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) on November 11, 2021.

A large number of documents are concentrated on a Samsung dual-folding smartphone with reverse wireless charging technology. The South Korean manufacturer has long offered reverse wireless charging options for its high-end Galaxy S series and Note series smartphones-also known as Wireless PowerShare by Samsung. Since the launch of the first Galaxy Fold, this technology can also be found in Samsung’s foldable phone models.

In smartphones with reverse wireless charging, you can use the phone’s battery to charge other devices—such as Galaxy Buds, smartwatches, or other phones. Patent documents show that Samsung also wants to implement this technology in its tri-fold smartphones. Because the phone consists of three display parts, necessary adjustments must be made.

A wireless power transmission device is placed in the second and third parts of the housing.
