Fitbit tests cute sleep animals to improve sleep

Although there are very fierce competitors on the market, Fitbit remains one of the most popular brands for those interested or passionate about wearables that are able to monitor various health and training parameters, in order to have an overall picture of their physical fitness. One of the most popular features for Fitbit users is undoubtedly the sleep score, which determines the quality of the user’s sleep. The novelty is that the company is testing the animal sleeping (Sleep Animals) representing a nice way to describe the quality of the user’s sleep.

At the moment the feature is only in beta and only available to some Fitbit Premium users. If you are one of the lucky ones who have received the new function, a new tab will be shown on the sleep information page between the graph at the top and the score for the day. By tapping on this new section we will be taken to a full-screen page where we will find the animal to which our sleep has been associated and for what reason. Obviously, the app does not just describe our sleep through the similarities with the sleeping animal but offers suggestions on how to improve.

There are six animals and each month the one corresponding to our sleep is assigned. The categories represented by the six animals are as follows:

Turtle: slow to fall asleep; this category includes people who take longer than average to fall asleep but who then manage to achieve a satisfactory number of hours of sleep. In this case, it is recommended to practice a pre-sleep routine in which if possible you can meditate and turn off your devices a few minutes before. Parrot: restless sleep.

Here it is described who moves a lot during the night and cannot have a deep and restful sleep. To be able to stay in REM sleep for longer, a darker and quieter environment possible during the night and a daily routine in which physical exercise and meditation are integrated is recommended. Hedgehog: light sleep; in this case, we refer to people with light and short sleep and as in the previous case, the time spent in REM sleep is relatively low. Despite this, those who belong to this category have no difficulty falling asleep and are advised to carve out a quiet period of time before going to bed. Giraffe: short sleep.

Giraffes have long necks but do not sleep for long when compared with other mammals. In this case, the problem is represented by the few hours of sleep accumulated during the night and it is recommended to go to bed a few minutes earlier and try to maintain similar times both when you wake up and when you go to sleep. Dolphin: irregular sleep; This category includes those who have difficulty having regular sleep as it is likely that there will be difficulty in relaxing before going to bed. It is possible that to remedy light sleep during the night you try to sleep briefly during the day, a harmful habit that must be resolved by trying to minimize sleep during the day and trying to make night sleep times more regular.

Bear – heavy sleep; this is the animal that is assigned when we have no major problems in our sleep. However, it is recommended that you continue with your current routine and pay attention to anything that may make your sleep worse.
