Confirmations arrive on the Google Pixel 5 with Tensor, that’s why it never arrived

A couple of weeks ago we told you about a possible Google Pixel 5 with the much-talked-about Tensor, which could have brought the chip to debut well before the release of Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro. In the end, nothing was done about that smartphone, but today there is further confirmation of its existence and the reasons behind the choice.

That’s why the Google Pixel 5 with Tensor chip never came

Based on what was said by the well-known YouTuber Marques Brownlee, who took up what Google representatives said in his latest video, the Google Pixel 5 with Tensor chip was expected for last year. And why did it never come in the end? Why did we have to wait for the Pixel 6?

Apparently, the Mountain View house was planning the debut of the Tensor with Pixel 5, but due to COVID-19 and problems with the supply chain it had to give up “at the last second”. However, not wanting to desist from launching the new smartphone, Google has therefore decided to use the Snapdragon 765G and set aside the new chip for the future.

Would this Tensor planned for last year be like the one that actually arrived with the Pixel 6 this fall? Hard to say, but some changes may have been made before launch. However, adopting the Snapdragon 765G should have been a bit of a step backward in terms of CPU and GPU power.

The additional year probably helped refine the Tensor better and the features we’ve seen debuting with the latest Big G smartphones. Would you have preferred to see a Google Pixel 5 with Tensor or do you think it was better this way in the end?
