DSCC: Samsung leads the foldable screen market in Q3 2021 with a record shipment of 2.6 million

As a novel concept that has emerged in recent years, despite the high price, the market performance of folding screen smartphones is still quite eye-catching. According to the latest report released by DSCC, the shipment volume of folding screen smartphones in the third quarter of 2021 is more than the sum of the previous four quarters. Specifically, in the third quarter, the shipment of foldable screen smartphones reached 2.6 million units, achieving a chain growth of 215%/ 480% year-on-year.

Samsung currently has an absolutely dominant position in the folding screen smartphone market with a market share of 93%. Huawei ranked second, also has a 6% market share. More precisely, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 alone helped Samsung lay 90% of the market. The main reason may be that the barriers to entry for both devices are lower than the old ones.

Looking forward to the fourth quarter of 2021, the report’s forecast is also quite optimistic. The shipment of folding screen smartphones is expected to increase by 47% month-on-month and more than 450% year-on-year to reach 3.8 million units. At that time, Samsung’s market share in the folding screen smartphone market is expected to further reach 95%. This means that the company’s efforts in marketing and “affordability” will also be rewarded generously.
