Formula E releases third-generation EV, will become the world’s most efficient racing car

Formula E has announced what it claims is the most efficient car on the planet. The teams will use the third-generation (Gen3) electric vehicles in the 2022-23 season and start testing in the spring. Gen3 is not only lighter and smaller than Gen2, Formula E and the International Automobile Federation (FIA) also stated that at least 40% of the energy in the race will be produced through regenerative braking. Therefore, Gen3 will be the first formula car without rear hydraulic brakes.

Gen3 is also the first formula car with a power system in the front and back. The rear 350kW power system will be supplemented by the front 250kW power system. With a total power of 600 kilowatts, they will be more than twice the regeneration capacity of Gen2.

In addition, the motor can provide up to 350kW of power (470 brake horsepower) and a top speed of 200 miles per hour. Both Formula E and FIA stated that its power-to-weight ratio is twice the efficiency of the same internal combustion engine.

Gen3 is designed for sustainability. It can achieve net-zero carbon, and broken carbon fiber parts can be recycled. At the same time, tires will use 26% of sustainable materials. Formula E CEO Jamie Reigle said in a statement: When designing Gen3 cars, we have to prove that high performance, high efficiency and sustainable development can coexist without compromise. Together with FIA, we have built the world’s most efficient and sustainable high-performance car. Gen3 is the fastest, lightest, most powerful and most efficient car we have built so far.

Formula E has not fully demonstrated the design of Gen3, but only released some preview pictures. However, since the team will test the car in a few months, people should not be able to see the correct appearance of the car is too long.
