Apple Watch 2022 lineup will include the new Watch SE and Rugged Model for Sports

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman said that Apple is planning a comprehensive transformation of its Apple Watch product line in 2022, including an update to the Apple Watch SE and a new Apple Watch with a rugged design for sports athletes. Gurman wrote in the latest issue of his Power On newsletter that in 2022, in addition to Apple Watch Series 8, Apple also plans to update the Apple Watch SE.

Apple Watch SE was released in September 2020 and has been the choice for entry-level users ever since. The design of the Apple Watch SE is the same as that of the Apple Watch Series 6, but it lacks advanced features such as an always-on display, blood oxygen sensor and ECG function.

Apple usually will not update its SE devices, such as the iPhone SE, within a few years. Given that Apple did not announce an update throughout 2021, it can be speculated that there will be new models in 2022. Gurman did not say what is expected of the new Apple Watch SE, but it may include a slightly adjusted design and health features that are more consistent with higher-end models.

In addition to updating the existing Apple Watch SE, Apple also plans to launch a new Apple Watch, mainly for athletes in strenuous and extreme sports. Bloomberg has previously reported that Apple has recently considered launching a more durable, reinforced version of the Apple Watch, which may use a case that is more resistant to scratches, dents, and drops.

Apple is currently cooperating with Nike to launch special Apple Watch Series 7 and SE models. These models have unique watch faces and are equipped with special watch straps, but these models have the same design and durability as the standard Apple Watch.

The current Apple Watch lineup includes Apple Watch 7 series, Apple Watch SE and the 2017 Apple Watch 3 series. According to rumors, Apple is now planning to expand the lineup to more customer groups in 2022, such as extreme athletes, who may now decide not to buy the Apple Watch simply because of the insufficient durability of the Apple Watch.
