Chromecast with Google TV: The December update arrives with various new features

A new update for the Chromecast dongle with Google TV is available for download: the QTS1.210311.036 software update brings substantial improvements for viewing HDR and Dolby Vision content, but not only. Those hoping for an update to the Android version will be disappointed, as it is still based on Android 10, despite the stable version of Android TV 12 being announced by Google on the developer site.

We do not yet know when the latest version of Android 12 dedicated to Google TV and Google Chromecast products will arrive: this update for Chromecast with Google TV arrives almost six months after the latest update, although in the meantime we have seen a renewal of the interface of Android TV.

The weight of the update is 158 MB and improves viewing of DRM-protected video content, as well as the ability to view Dolby Vision content. HLG HDR media will no longer be converted to HDR10 for viewing, improving viewing performance. Optimizations for internal storage are always welcome, given the limited space available to users – about 8 GB, not counting the octw space occupied by the cache and operating system.
