According to the latest report, Apple today released an updated firmware for the MagSafe charger, which is compatible with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series models with internal magnetic suction. The version of the new firmware is 10M229, which is higher than the previous 9M5069.
The MagSafe charger was originally launched with the iPhone 12 model in the fall of 2020, and it has had at least one firmware update before. Since the firmware update is carried out quietly via OTA, Apple does not provide release notes, so it is currently unknown what new features or bug fixes may be included in the software.
There is currently no clear way to update the firmware of the MagSafe charger, but it needs to be plugged in and connected to an Apple device to initiate the firmware update. You can follow the steps below:
- Put your iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 on the Apple MagSafe charger, align the magnets and establish charging (if your device is locked, you should see a charging animation on the screen. If it is unlocked, please check the upper corner of the screen To ensure that the charging symbol is displayed).
- Launch the Settings app on your iOS device, and then tap General -> About.
- Scroll down and tap the Apple MagSafe charger.
- Check the numbers displayed next to the firmware version and model entries.

If the MagSafe charger menu is not displayed in the About section of the Settings app, then your Apple brand MagSafe charger or MagSafe Duo charger is likely to be a fake. Similarly, when using a third-party MagSafe charger authorized by Apple, this menu will not appear.
According to Apple’s official website, the MagSafe charger makes wireless charging fast and convenient. The magnets can be precisely aligned with each other on your iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, which greatly increases the speed of wireless charging (up to 15 watts).
The MagSafe charger is still compatible with Qi wireless charging, so it can wirelessly charge iPhone 8 or later models and AirPods models equipped with wireless charging box-like Qi-certified chargers. The magnetic alignment function is only available for iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models. Apple recommends 20W USB‑C power adapter (sold separately).
