Samsung’s smartwatches of the future unveiled by a new patent

According to the latest patents filed, Samsung has every intention of revolutionizing the world of smartwatches by offering new solutions, both in terms of design and functionality available to the user. The company’s expertise in flexible displays will be able to find numerous applications to the Samsung Galaxy Watch range in the near future. The documentation of Samsung Electronics’ recent patent, filed last May at the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) and released this week, reveals several details about the future solutions the company is working on.

For the Samsung Galaxy Watch of the future, in fact, the Korean house has patented a particular square display with a side crown. The display can be rotated along a central axis, allowing the user to orient it in the way that best suits their needs, thus adapting to different types of use. Among the features of this new patent, there is the possibility of extending the screen, expanding its useful surface for the user.

At its maximum extent, the screen is able to accommodate 24 icons, exactly double what happens in the standard display mode. It should be noted that the possibility of extending the display will allow Samsung to also introduce support for the S-Pen, to be used to interact with the display of a future Samsung Galaxy Watch. The fields of application of the extended display may be different and it will be the application user that will have to exploit the largest available surface. The mere presence of a larger display, in any case, should allow a simplified use of messaging applications directly from the smartwatch.

The rollable smartwatch anticipated by the Samsung patent presents some other technological gem that anticipates the possible future evolutions of the Samsung Galaxy Watch range. Among the features of the project, in fact, there is also a camera under the display, capable of capturing photos and videos according to the user’s needs. It is important to underline, in any case, that the new patent presented by the Korean company is only a preview of what could come in the future for the company’s smartwatch range.

At the moment, in fact, there is no Samsung Galaxy Watch in the pipeline capable of offering all these solutions, both in terms of design and functionality. However, the patent confirms that Samsung is working on the evolution of its range of wearable devices and the smartwatches with flexible displays of the future could hold a large number of surprises.
