CDPR reaches agreement for US class action

Well, it took much less time than expected: CD Projekt announced that it has reached an agreement as part of the class action filed in the US relating to the poor conditions at the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. The company will pay 1.85 million dollars to investors who participated in the class action (more precisely, in the class actions: four had been filed, which were then made to converge in a single process).

The clauses of the agreement are the same: all charges will be dismissed and the compensation does not represent, from a legal point of view, an admission of fault or responsibility. It is interesting to remember that in the month of the game’s release, December 2020 alone, CD Projekt has totaled sales of 563 million dollars.

The expense of the class action is added to the approximately 2.2 million dollars in reimbursements to end users who were dissatisfied with the quality of the game, especially on the older generation consoles (in short, PS4 and Xbox One). There should then be further “indirect” reimbursements – in the sense those granted by Sony and Microsoft directly, which of course then refer back to the manufacturer; but precise details of this figure are not known.

Even being generous with the estimates, we can safely say that the situation has not turned out too badly for CD Projekt: in the sense that in relation to sales the reimbursements are almost (almost!) Negligible.

The reputation problem remains to be solved: that is, when the next game is imminent, will the players throw themselves into it again headlong or, mindful of Cyberpunk 2077, will they decide to go cautious? It’s impossible to answer for now, but it’s true that CD Projekt is working hard to restore its good name.

In the first year of availability, Cyberpunk received a large number of patches and updates that significantly improved the game’s stability, performance and quality. Already this summer, CDPR said it believed that the quality level had now reached an acceptable level.

However, this had inevitable repercussions on the roadmap of additional content, which to date are almost zero. The next-gen patch, which will allow the game to take full advantage of the power of the new Sony and Microsoft consoles, has also been postponed several times, and according to the latest news it will arrive in early 2022.
