Linux 5.16 is optimized for AMD mobile processors, with a performance increase of up to 14%

According to the latest report, the official version of the Linux kernel 5.16 was released recently, which improves the performance of notebook computers equipped with AMD processors and Radeon graphics cards. According to the actual measurement of some media, Linux 5.16 is an increase of 5%-14% for AMD processors.

Phoronix uses a laptop to perform a comparison test of the two versions of the system. The notebook is equipped with R5 5500U processor and runs Gravity Mark, Legacy, GLmark2 and other test items. In GLmark 2 and Xonotic, the performance increased by 14%; in the Xonotic and Unvanquished tests, the performance increased by 10-11%.

On another notebook equipped with R7 Pro 5850U (Zen 3 architecture), the test results are similar to the previous notebook. Most running sub-projects have a slight improvement when using Linux 5.16.

The AMD Ryzen R5 5500U processor has 6 cores and 12 threads, L3 cache 8MB, the highest frequency is 4.0GHz and adopts Zen 2 architecture. The R7 PRO 5850U processor has 8 cores and 16 threads, the L3 cache reaches 16MB, and the maximum frequency is 4.4GHz.
