Android & Google Chrome: Confirmation in two steps with QR code comes

Last year, Google made the two-step confirmation standard for all users and requires it whenever the user wants to log in after a long period of time or from a new device. The authorization on the smartphone can be done with different methods and now you are working on another variant: Login via QR code.

The confirmation in two steps requires the user to log in on the computer or other device as a second step on the smartphone that is also connected to the Google account. Depending on the region, this can be done via SMS code, via push code, with the prompt message in the Google app or with previously printed security codes. All methods are quite easy to use, with a YES and NO prompt being the simplest variant.

There are no clear indications of a new method that can be activated in the future via a flag in the Chrome browser: confirmation via QR code. The exact procedure is not known, but the user is likely to see a QR code displayed, which has to be scanned using a smartphone and the URL behind it called up.

That doesn’t necessarily sound like a relief, but rather like an unnecessary additional step. There has to be more to it than that which has not yet been known. Perhaps logging in with a previously authorized second smartphone? The login completely without a password? Let’s wait and see, but something is happening again …
