Google Photos: New settings for upload via mobile data

A secret update brings new settings for the Android app from Google Photos. However, the group may have made a mistake here that will soon be reversed. With Google Photos, users have always been able to decide for themselves whether new recordings should be uploaded to the cloud even without a WiFi connection.

If you don’t include too much data volume in the tariff, it of course makes perfect sense not to use the backup via mobile data. You could also make a difference whether the app should only upload photos or also videos via mobile data.

Google Photos: New upload settings accidentally distributed?

The latter is probably no longer possible now. Google has removed the corresponding switches from the Photos app. Quite surprising and without notice. You can now decide whether an upload should generally take place via mobile data or not. In addition, a limit can be set so that your data volume is not burdened endlessly. However, you can only choose between 5, 10 and 30 megabytes here.

The origin of this innovation was the Indian market. Since the options for the daily limit do not really match our tariffs, our colleagues suspect that Google may have rolled out these new settings worldwide by mistake. There are also no changes to the help pages. So wait and see whether the new settings are retained for a long time.
