Model Brooks Nader says a stranger was tracking her with an Apple AirTag

A swimsuit model Brooks Nader said she was followed for five hours while visiting a bar on Wednesday night after a stranger apparently shoved an Apple AirTag into her jacket pocket. Nader, 26, detailed the incident in an Instagram post on Thursday.

Nader said she was hanging her coat over the back of her chair when someone might have put the AirTag in her pocket. Afterward, she said the man followed her for five hours as she went to several New York City bars.

She was only alerted to the tracking when a notification appeared on her iPhone that an unknown accessory was moving with her. She found the AirTag in her jacket when she got home.

This is the scariest, scariest moment ever, she said in an Instagram post. I just want everyone to be aware that this situation exists.

Before being tracked, Nader said she had no idea AirTags existed. Now, she’s using her massive social media following to raise awareness about potential security risks. After the accessory was released in April 2021, there have been some reports of AirTags being used to track people and facilitate theft.

However, Apple says the devices are designed to prevent tracking. AirTags have anti-tracking mechanisms such as alerts that notify Nader. They also beep when out of range of their owner’s iPhone. These are features that other tracking devices don’t currently have, such as those made by Tile.
