Actually, Android 12L is not a big update for smartphones. Nevertheless, there should also be a few small changes for the Pixel phones. The second beta version reveals more. Before Android 12, you could also use the Google widget (Live View or At A Glance) on the home screen as a shortcut.
If you tapped the date, you ended up in the calendar. If you tapped on the weather, the weather area of the Google app opened. That’s different now. From Android 12 you can only open the weather. But either that’s a mistake or Google is going to reverse its decision.
Android 12L brings back old Google widget behavior
As has now become known through the second beta version of Android 12L, the widget’s old behavior will return very soon. A tap of your finger on the weather opens the weather forecast and tapping on the date opens the calendar app again. However, Google seems to only really be implementing this change with Android 12L, which should be released in the first half of the year.
