Android 12: These smartphones will receive the update to Google’s new OS

Google’s new Android 12 operating system has been on the market for a few months and the successors, about which a lot has already become known: Android 12L and Android 13, have long been pushing to the light. But we’re not there yet, because many users are waiting for the rollout of Android 12. We’ll show you current lists of all major smartphone manufacturers who want to update their devices to the current operating system.

Android 12 has been rolled out on the first smartphones since the beginning of November, with Pixel users, as usual, and a little later the first Samsung users to look forward to. But who can be happy about that outside of the Google and Samsung universe? The update situation is known to be one of the biggest problems with Android and will not have improved significantly with the update from Android 11 to Android 12. The smartphone manufacturers still have all the time in the world and in most cases they are not really in a hurry.

In the last few weeks, after a long break, some other smartphone manufacturers have spoken up and announced which smartphones will receive the update and when. Some lists do not specify dates and others simply refer to their update guarantee, which you can then simply combine with the start of sales to get an approximate list. Apart from the big flagships, the only security is with the Pixel smartphones anyway, since Google has usually completed the update within a few days. But that was also scratched on for the first time with Android 12 and will hopefully not become the norm.

Here are the lists of the major smartphone manufacturers without any guarantee. It is a mix of official sources, leaked lists and just speculation – the respective status is given. Smartphones that came onto the market in 2020 and 2021 have very good chances, from 2019 things will become critical and in 2018 unfortunately, only a miracle can help.

Google

Google’s update lists are permanently officially visible and have not been shaken so far. Owners of the second and first Pixel generation should start thinking about a new smartphone. The third generation of Pixel smartphones received the last version update with the update to Android 12 and received the last regular security update in October 2021. Smaller updates follow (t)en, but officially it is now “out”.
