Tesla has begun to push the FSD Beta 10.9 update. According to the update instructions, V10.9 has some incremental changes that provide significant improvements to the actual performance of the FSD Beta. According to reports, FSD Beta 10.9 appears to be part of Tesla software update 2021.44.30.10.
The famous Tesla tipster @greentheonly said that Tesla also rolled out a new map update in 2021.44.30.10, and the updated map may make the experience of Tesla users better when traveling. A look at the update notes for V10.9 reveals that Tesla is working to make the FSD beta behave more like a human driver, with references to “more natural” unprotected left turns, as well as impending deceleration ahead A “quieter” launch, which should make for a smoother ride than before.

- Improved intersection range and right-of-way assignment by updating the modeling of intersection areas from dense rasters (“packets of points”) to sparse instances. Intersection area IOU increased by 4.2%. The sparse intersection network is the first model to deploy an autoregressive structure, running with low latency on the TRIP Al accelerator chip through innovations in the Al compiler stack.
- The generalized static object network has been upgraded to use 10-bit photon count streams instead of 8-bit ISP tone-mapped images by adding 10-bit inference support to the Al compiler stack. Overall recall improves by 3.9% and precision by 1.7%.
- Make unprotected left turns across oncoming lanes more natural by going straight into the intersection and yielding before starting the turn.
- Improved lane preference and topology estimates by 1.2% with network updates and a new format for navigation cues.
- Short-term lane changes have been improved by better simulating the deceleration required for maneuvering after a lane change.
- Improved predicted paths for objects not constrained by lane geometry through better kinematic modeling.
- Made the start calmer when at a standstill when there is an impending deceleration ahead.
- Improved clearance selection when yielding to oncoming traffic on narrow roads.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently tweeted that the FSD beta should begin rolling out to Canada in the next two to four weeks, although the company plans to “exercise a cautious approach.” Musk confirmed that since the launch of the FSD beta program in October 2020, there have been no incidents or injuries involving FSDs to date.
