Tesla CEO Musk revealed on his active social media at the beginning of the month that the price of Tesla’s fully automatic driving function in the US market will be raised to $12,000 on January 17. According to information on Tesla’s US official website, the price of the fully autonomous driving function in the US market has been officially raised to $12,000.
This increase to $12,000 is the first time Tesla has increased the price of its fully self-driving feature in more than a year. The last increase was in October 2020, when it rose from $8,000 to $10,000. Rising to $12,000, which means the price of Tesla’s fully autonomous driving, has doubled since May 2019. In May of that year, Tesla adjusted the price from $5,000 to $6,000.
After that, Tesla has also raised the price of the fully autonomous driving function several times, from $7,000 on August 16, 2019, to $8,000 on July 1, 2020, and to $10,000 in October 2020. The last two hikes were $2,000, up from $1,000 previously. Since Musk has previously stated on social media that the latest price increase only involves the US market, the prices in other markets will not be adjusted. In the domestic market, the current price of Tesla’s fully automatic driving function is still 64,000 yuan.
Although the function name given by Tesla is fully autonomous driving, it does not actually achieve fully autonomous driving and requires the driver to actively control it. Tesla’s current capabilities for fully autonomous driving include Auto Assisted Navigation, Auto Assisted Lane Change, Auto Park, Smart Summon, Recognize and React to Traffic Lights and Stop Signs, and will soon add Auto Assisted Driving on city streets Features.
At present, the self-driving technology in the industry is still being perfected, and so is Tesla’s fully autonomous driving. But with the continuous increase of functions, the price will also increase. Musk also mentioned that when he announced the price increase on social media at the beginning of the month, the price will increase as it gradually approaches fully autonomous driving.
Unlike the US market, which only has fully autonomous driving, Tesla also sells an enhanced version of the automatic assisted driving function in the domestic market. The current price is 32,000 yuan, which is half the price of the fully automatic driving function. The functions include automatic assisted navigation and driving, automatic driving.
