This application will make your foldable smartphones even more special

Folding smartphones, due to their particular form factor, offer users further customization possibilities compared to “traditional” phones and an example is the reproduction of a sound when the device is opened or closed.

From the community that revolves around Android comes an application called Scrunch which aims to allow owners of a smartphone from the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series to choose a sound animation to be played on the device when it is opened or closed.

With Scrunch comes a new option for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold

The application is currently at version 0.2 and has been tested on Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 but according to its developer, it should also be able to work on the other models of this series of the Korean giant. Scrunch, available on F-Droid, is described as being able to play short sounds on the phone every time it is opened or closed, with the ability to set the volume level and support for silent mode and Do Not Disturb.

To take advantage of all the features of the app it is necessary to manually grant the READ_LOGS permission via ADB (adb shell pm grant com.denytheflowerpot.scrunch android.permission.READ_LOGS). In addition to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series models, the Scrunch app works on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, as shown in the following video:

Probably other foldable smartphones are also supported by the app and its developer with version 0.2 has started working to include Microsoft Surface Duo as well. If you have a folding smartphone and the possibility of using Scrunch to customize it when it is opened or closed is an idea that teases you, you can download this application by going to F Droid (here you will find the dedicated page) or on GitHub, where you will also find all the related documentation.
